This is financial analysis and cost control work. This position also monitors and controls accounts for capital projects; prepares related council reports and bylaw funding requests; assists in the preparation of capital budgets, financial forecasts and a variety of materials such as financial reports, statements and year-end and period-end working papers. As directed this position receives, analyzes, compiles and summarizes financial information and data. This position also prepares reports for senior management, advises project managers on accounting matters and ensures compliance with established regulatory requirements, procedures and policies; maintains and analyzes the department’s financial SAP modules and provides assistance to a superior in a variety of accounting operations. Work performance is evaluated by a superior for efficiency, accuracy and conformance with established practices, policies and procedures. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a recognized accounting program such as CPA, CGA, CMA or CA and some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures applicable to municipal accounting including capital budgeting and cost control procedures and of applicable laws, regulations and statutory requirements governing municipal financial and treasury operations. Ability to analyze and interpret various financial, budget, accounting and cost control information and data; develop logical solutions to budget variance and financial reporting problems; prepare a variety of financial statements, reports and schedules related to the work performed; assist in developing, organizing, maintaining and improving a comprehensive budget and cost control program; use software packages and computer tools related to the work performed, e.g. advanced MS Excel skills and a working knowledge of SAP or another ERP system (strong understanding of master data maintenance and working knowledge of the FI, CO, PS and FM modules are assets); deal tactfully with all levels of staff and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff.
This is a temporary full time opportunity to December 31, 2022.
