This is clerical work of moderate complexity relative to the verification and maintenance of information in the Police Records Information Management Environment (PRIME) at the Burnaby RCMP. The work requires an incumbent to create and assess the nature of new occurrence files and to independently determine the appropriate record keeping procedures. An incumbent also reviews and modifies the first instance scoring for Uniform Crime Reporting and RCMP Statistics (UCR) purposes performed by operators. Reads new occurrence files in PRIME to determine circumstances surrounding and nature of occurrence and appropriate processing method; determines which offences are reportable to Statistics Canada, verifies validity and completeness of codes entered by other detachment staff in accordance with prescribed rules; adds or modifies UCR scores as required; establishes which files can be concluded into PRIME and concludes same; performs secondary scoring for concluded investigational files. Retrieves and verifies information entered by other staff into CPIC; reviews such files for adherence to operational reporting system rules and regulations and, as required, refers files to CPIC operators for updating on CPIC. Produces jurisdictional statistical reports; reviews and maintains diary date system; advises members of external reporting requirements for concluded files as required. Prepares, processes and maintains a variety of files, records, reports and related material; provides, in accordance with departmental policy, factual information regarding file content to a variety of internal and external contacts. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of grade 12, including or supplemented by commercial, typing, computer operator courses plus sound related experience, preferably in a police department or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the work performed. Sound knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures used in police software applications, of the coding system applicable to the Criminal Code of Canada and other applicable Federal and Provincial Statutes enforced by the RCMP. Ability to review file documents to ensure that all required information is recorded and to notify investigating member when file is deficient or to make corrections as required. Ability to operate computer equipment, perform related clerical work and to audit entries. Ability to maintain effective working relationships and to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts in matters applicable to the work.
