This is engineering, utilities information and clerical work. An employee of this class supplies information in response to requests from various municipal and public sources and provides response to customer service enquiries. Work also includes issuing permits and fee collection in areas including sewer, water, design, environmental, traffic, inspection and other permits issued by Engineering; maintaining related records and assisting in related operations and office services. An incumbent exercises independence of action in continuing assignments but refers difficult problems and policy matters to a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of accuracy of recorded and released information and overall effectiveness of services rendered. Receives and processes applications for areas including sewer, water, design, environmental, traffic, inspection and other permits. Establishes, maintains and updates filing systems for varied information; composes routine correspondence (e.g. a variety of internal and external documentation including: reports, memos, letters); enters information into databases or spreadsheets for tracking and monitoring purposes. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 plus general office, recordkeeping and customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of departmental policies and procedures related to the work. Good knowledge of filing, recordkeeping, office practices and procedures and some knowledge of elementary survey, drafting and engineering practices. Proficiency in the use of MS Office and familiarity with related software applications, such as SAP, INFOR, EnerGov, Burnaby Map. Ability to deal tactfully, courteously and effectively with internal and external clients answering enquiries, forwarding information or explaining department rules and regulations. Ability to use related software applications including databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications; and to operate related equipment. A good understanding of the business process within the Engineering Department related to infrastructure assets. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Pay Rate: $27.43 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
