This is storekeeping and clerical work of moderate complexity performed in a city stores facility. An employee of this class is responsible for ordering, receiving, recording, storing and issuing a wide variety of automotive parts, fuel/oil, tools and supplies and construction and maintenance materials; maintaining an adequate level of supplies in inventory according to known or anticipated demands; creating requisitions for approved items; making purchases within established practices and maintaining related clerical records; locating stock and forwarding to customers; posting goods receipts to computerized inventory system. The Materials Management Worker 2 assists with related inventory tasks and performs inventory counts; maintaining stores storage facilities in a clean, orderly, secure and safe condition; assists in developing and implementing new/revised warehouse procedures and layout. Sources automotive parts and supplies for the City’s fleet and equipment not kept in inventory; reviews delivery receipts to note package sizes, locate pricing errors, short shipments and back orders; contacts suppliers to expedite orders and to correct shipping and pricing errors; assists in investigating and correcting discrepancies; operating a fork lift to load, unload and move heavy material; providing information to staff regarding such matters as stock on hand, pricing and requisitioning procedures; arranges for storage and/or movement of stock. As required, an incumbent of this class provides on-the-job training and work assistance to junior staff. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work plus sound related automotive experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of stores practices and procedures and regulations governing stores operations; of the various types and uses of supplies, automotive parts, tools, equipment and services required by client departments; of the hazards and proper safety precautions related to the work performed; and of purchasing methods and procedures. Ability to perform a variety of clerical, record keeping, pricing, posting and related stores-clerical and manual tasks; to provide work direction to junior staff; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various internal and external contacts; to operate common office equipment including a computer terminal; ability to operate a fork lift. Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work. Experience using an ERP/computerized inventory system, and knowledge of Microsoft Office are considered assets. Valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia and a Forklift Operator’s Certificate are required.

As per the Letters of Understanding dated January 29, 2015, and October 24, 2017: this position requires the flexibility to work varied shifts between the hours of 6:00 AM – 10:30 PM at different locations, depending on operational requirements).
