Currently we deliver on our mission with two core programs:
The annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival is the largest queer arts event in Western Canada and the second largest film festival in Vancouver, BC, showcasing cutting-edge films from throughout BC, across Canada, and around the world alongside discussion panels, artist Q&As, multidisciplinary performances, parties and more.
Impact: A dynamic showcase of emerging and accomplished queer cinema that pushes artistic boundaries and fosters a sense of belonging, affirmation and connection with other community members and to social movements.
Out In Schools facilitators use LGBT2Q+ films in schools and communities throughout BC to combat homophobia and transphobia, making schools safer and more inclusive for all students
Impact: Innovative and compelling educational experiences that deepen students’ intersectional knowledge and promote inclusive behavior.
The Box Office Coordinator reports to the Box Office Manager to ensure our box office operations runs smoothly and efficiently with a focus on ticketing mailout, community and partner tickets and accessible ticketing.
This is a youth placement position. Candidates must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Located in our office in Downtown Vancouver, on unceded Coast Salish Territories – the Box Office Assistant is a 10 week full-time (30 hours per week) contract position, running from June 22 to August 29, 2019. This position pays $20.17 per hour.
Due to the on-going nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the details of this job posting may change or shift as necessary.
Ticketing: Support the Box Office Manager with all box office tasks including tracking tickets and passes, fulfilling complimentary ticket requests, compile Will Call lists, assist with preparation of daily box office forms and reports, handle ticketing queries from the public, and general cashier duties during the festival.
Community Ticketing & Partners: work with our Community Outreach and Events Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator to increase accessibility and to fulfill our commitment to free tickets to LGBT2Q+ and local community groups (Kickstart Disability Arts & Culture, Rainbow Alliance for the Deaf & Queer ASL, Rainbow Refugee, Youth CO, Urban Natives Youth Association and others).
Accessibility: oversee our honour-based discounted tickets aimed at youth, seniors and the underemployed including our recent $40 Youth 6-pack initiative. Assist patrons without internet access to purchase tickets. https://queerfilmfestival.ca/venues-accessibility/
Community Events: fulfill ticketing requests for sale at local community events, train outreach team on ticketing processes
Collaboration: Attending and participating at bi-weekly festival meetings.
Post-Festival: produce a final report with your experiences and recommendations for the future.
Able to meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility
Outgoing; exceptional interpersonal communication skills
Organized self-starter with an eye for detail
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
Experience with ticketing systems and box office a major asset
