The District of Saanich is seeking a temporary part time Environmental GIS Analyst to support the ongoing development, maintenance and expansion of environmental data within the municipal-wide GIS enterprise database. The successful candidate will perform field capture and analyze data to produce maps, statistics, and associated graphics.
The Environmental GIS Analyst performs a variety of complex, multi-faceted GIS work including data compilation and storage, data conversion, geocoding, geoprocessing, topological editing, cartographic output and report generation. Strong attention to detail, problem solving abilities and communication skills are vital along with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Requirements include: a degree in Geography, Environment, Geomatics, Computer Science or related discipline with an emphasis on GIS; three years experience in the field of GIS with an emphasis on utilization of Esri products including one year experience with graphic design programs, such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. Sound knowledge of GIS principles, standards, and methods especially for environmental data; Proficient with desktop, mobile, and web GIS applications; Proficient with GIS data compilation, versioned editing and quality control and a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence. Field capture experience, Riparian Areas Regulation training and knowledge of the natural environment are assets. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to work three 7 hour days per week.
