The Capitol Theatre in Nelson, BC is dedicated to presenting excellence in a range of events including community and professional theatre, dance, music, film, and youth programming. Our mission is to produce, provide and present live performing arts experiences and opportunities for our community and beyond. In addition to producing and presenting a season of touring artists events, the Capitol Theatre also supports community organizations, artists and agents as a rental venue.
The Capitol Theatre in Nelson, BC seeks a part-time Marketing Coordinator. Since opening its doors 32 years ago, the Capitol Theatre has grown into a cultural cornerstone for the residents of the City of Nelson and the region. Our mission is community enrichment through the arts and we achieve that trough providing a facility for the performing arts and programming that is inspiring, offers youth engagement opportunities, is a home for great arts experience and a gathering place for community. We operate in an inspiring and inclusive environment, providing access to cultural expression in its many forms.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, improving, tracking and reporting on marketing initiatives and improving the theatre’s market position.
Devise and implement marketing strategy and budget.
Develop marketing materials for annual season series and Capitol productions.
Keep Capitol Theatre website maintained and up to date.
Do Poster, flyer and programs design work and distribution.
Prepare displays around building that pertain to Capitol Theatre events.
Displays posters around building that pertain to Capitol Theatre rentals.
Manage Facebook, Instagram and Youtube pages and post regularly.
Write press releases and send information to newsletters; post on websites and calendars.
Write copy for advertising.
Prepare and deliver Radio interviews etc.
Field phone calls and return messages/respond to emails.
Help with projects as delegated by the ED.
Draft documents, reports and letters as needed.
Sub for Box Office staff when needed.
Experience in social media and the field of marketing and design or comparable experience.
Ability to work flexible hours (including the occasional night and weekend) is required.
Outstanding attention to detail.
Knowledge of performing arts disciplines including theatre, film exhibition, dance, music (of all genres), community and school presentations.
Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment with a small staff.
Ability to work independently with a strict adherence to deadlines.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently.
Experience working in a team-based collaborative environment with a positive attitude.
Strong computer skills:
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google calendar, Google Drive and Drop Box.
Experience using design software i.e. Adobe Photoshop / InDesign, Canva, Mailchimp, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.
Theatre Manager knowledge an asset.

Salary up to $10,000 depending on experience, plus 4 weeks paid vacation plus health benefit bonus after one year of employment. Employment contract for 10 hours per week, flex time. Work from theatre office and home. Includes some weekend and evening hours.
