The college has a strong community of alumni, donor, and volunteer support, and has been highly effective in its management of COVID-19 protocols, ensuring that students, faculty and staff are safe, and that the college could return to in-person learning in September 2020 and continue to be successful in its mandate of providing the highest caliber or performing arts training.
Reporting directly to the Managing Artistic Director, the Director of Education holds a key position at the College as the senior academic officer, responsible for the students, faculty, and educational functions and standards of the institution. The Director ensures current and relevant curriculum is developed and implemented in an environment of continuous improvement and excellence, including curriculum and course reviews, establishment and maintenance of educational standards, and the selection, support and oversight of faculty. The Director of Education holds the designation of Senior Education Administrator, as identified by the Private Training Institution Branch of the Government of BC (PTIB), the College’s regulatory body.
This is a full-time salaried position with a comprehensive medical benefits package and four weeks of paid vacation annually.
Position start date is subject to the availability of the successful candidate between January-July 2021.
The Director of Education’s core responsibilities are to ensure that the educational mandate of the college is fulfilled and that the conduct of faculty & students and standards of education are at the highest national level. Directed and supported by the college’s strategic plan, the Director supports the artistic vision of the College as set by the Managing Artistic Director and works to achieve this vision both practically and productively. The Director of Education works to maximize the potential for students to pursue opportunities in the performing arts with the support of an effective and engaged faculty.
Ensure all educational programming and initiatives reflect the values and priorities of the College’s Strategic Plan.
Conduct effective and meaningful strategies to attract a high caliber of prospective student, including an audition/interview process.
Collaborate with the Managing Artistic Director in crafting a well-balanced curriculum that provides the skills and experience required for employability in the current performing arts industries.
Work with the Managing Artistic Director to secure, identify, hire, train and support high caliber faculty to deliver the curriculum.
Oversee the work of the Registrar to develop class and event schedules that efficiently deliver the required program hours of the curriculum.
Work with the Registrar on any communication of schedules, events, and operational guidelines with faculty, staff, students, and the Board of Directors as requested.
Ensure that the implementation of the program, artistically and educationally, maintains and delivers a high caliber, current aesthetic, and aligns with the strategic priorities of the College as set forth by the Managing Artistic Director and Board of Directors.
Monitor fiscal responsibility and health and safety of the program and activities with the Managing Artistic Director.

Master of Arts Degree in Education, preferable, or Masters in related Fine Arts discipline, plus a minimum of 10 years of experience, or equivalent work experience in education and/or performing arts disciplines.
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated professional experience in the pursuit or educational development of the Performing Arts with a specialty in disciplines in at least one discipline.
Experience in budget development and oversight.
Leadership or management training and experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong public speaking and engagement skills.
Operates from and understands the ethical framework required in post-secondary and arts organizations.
